Cats, these days

Very bright morning sunshine, these days. Sleeypyhead Kyoku wakes up and says ‘I wanna go out!’ before eating breakfast. Even if he is a cat, he shouldn’t go out without having breakfast. I feed him half a package of wet food as he eats his cat salad (barley, grown to about ten centimetres tall). He leaves a little food as usual and starts to say ‘I wanna go out! Wanna go out!’ He has a fine cat toilet in our house; however, ever since we tried out another litter that he hated, he has become a fellow who prefers to do it outside except in emergencies. It’s trouble. The house across from ours is a very nice location for him. Of course it must feel good doing one’s business among the flowers in a bigger yard. (We are very sorry to the U family.)

We happen to look at our shed roof, and there is Hana. (His actual name at his own home is Ryo.) We feed him some dry food as a reward for taking care of Kyoku. He eats food with dynamic manners. Which is to say, he tears into it like it was about to run away. Hey! Don’t you eat at home? We really think so. We heard from Mrs. K that at your home, she feeds you octopus. We never tried to feed that to Kyoku, or even let him smell it!

Mrs. K said that Kyoku appears at her house four times a day these days. (Every time I hear about Kyoku from her, she increases the number of his appearances at her house…) Mrs. K is eighty some years old, lives up the street, and really loves any and all cats. I heard she has a cat buffet at her house every day, with milk, dry food, dried bonito flakes, and fish cakes in four separate bowls. It seems Kyoku goes there every day to eat bonito and fish cakes, without getting atracted by milk and dry food at all. (We never feed him human food.) He is a very impudent cat, sometimes opening their door by himself, and even going upstairs in their house! Helpless cat, he is! Fourtunately, it sounds like Mrs. K looks forward to seeing Kyoku while active boss Hana is out.

It’s going to be getting more and more hot and humid. Probably, Kyoku will be at Mrs. K’s house, where they have a cool air conditioner all the time. But please come back home at night! This is still your home!
