C’s cooking

Chris often used to cook. Probably he had more free time in the evening before. Even now, he sometimes cooks when I’m out, but he doesn’t have a chance to cook in the evening. He originally likes to cook though.

Yesterday, it was a rainy Sunday, with a heavy rain and thunder warning. We didn’t have any urgent business, and worried about leaving two unfamiliar cats inside the house. They were holding an invitation-only sale for customers (people with point cards, like us) at a supermarket near our house, and Chris said that he would cook for supper.

It was raining, I made two dustcloths by sewing used towels, and wiped the sticky wood floor. (Is it because of cats or weather?) Chris read a mystery book.
When there was a break in the heavy rain, we went shopping at the supermarket. The invitation-only sale usually draws a lot of people, but it wasn’t bad: the people who really try hard might have been there earlier.

It was my turn to lie down and wait until supper was ready. I read a mystery story I hadn’t finish to read. A nice smell came from the kitchen.

Anyway, the following was yesterday’s supper menu.

Jeyuk Sun (pork and potato sauté)
It’s a tasty dish cooked with gochu jang paste. Please cook it again.
Kaji Namul (eggplant salad with red chilli)
Roasted eggplant with sesame, vinegar, red hot chilli, and garlic.
Chaban (side dishes: fish and beef)
It’s supposed to have anchovy, too. But we didn’t have any. The dish had a strong taste, like stuff boiled down with soy sauce. We ate it with lettuce, which was a good idea.

The recipes are from a book called The Korean Kitchen.

Our house has many cookbooks in English about different countries’ food. But I usually cook dishes using recipes I can get at the supermarket or in newspaper articles, because it’s easy to get or buy the ingredients, the price is cheaper, and I can read Japanese quicker. I feel it’s a waste I don’t try to cook using those recipes in English, but I don’t think I will cook impressively different dishes in the future, because cooking is an everyday thing.

So I expect Chris to cook a greater variety of dishes when he has the time! (In addition, doing the dishes is usually Chris’ work.)
