Hachitaro News, 2 to 29 October

In August, while I was in the hospital, Hachitaro topped 1 kg, and he got to be over 2 kg when I had to stay there again in October.
A kitten sure can grow. It’s like he doesn’t want anyone to call him a kid. (Still, he is only 70% the size of Kuro.) He has big feet! Which means he will be a big guy in the near future, right?

When he came to our house, he quickly demonstrated that he remembered where his toilet was. So we wondered if he might be smarter than the other two cats, and it may be true. The evidence?

Reason 1 – When he has only a little bit of food left, he uses his front foot to pull it closer, so he can eat easily.
Reason 2 – After he finishes his meal, he runs to Kuro’s bowl and pulls it toward himself and takes the leftovers. We don’t know why Kuro gives up easily and runs to Kyoku’s bowl. (Kyoku eats slower than the other two.)
Reason 3 – It seems he is better at finding comfortable spots than other two.

However, he doesn’t follow Kyoku’s style of using the toilet. (Kyoku likes to be clean.) His style is similar to rough Kuro’s. (Because they are related?)
Before (not after) he poos, he digs up the litter a lot. It makes a deeper hole by his feet, so he almost steps on his stuff. And then he piles a big amount of litter on top of it.
(By the way, in Kuro’s case, he digs holes and kicks around his poo. The litter forms a ball after they pee, which is the sales point of the litter we always buy. But Kuro’s kicking knocks it to pieces, and he kicks his solid stuff here and there in the box. All cats’ poo stinks anyway, but Kyoku is neater.)
