Small pleasures (C’s case)

The taste of ‘sparkling alcohol’ and ‘third beer’ (cheaper beer-like drinks in Japan) has been getting better compared to what they were like some years ago, but they are still different from beer. We feel there is something different about the taste. However, we usually can’t afford real beer. It isn’t kind to our living expenses.

Some months ago, at a Net shop, I found out about blind sales of beer, for 99 yen per bottle. It’s cheap because the beer is close to its sell-by date. Of course Chris always wants to buy it every time there’s a blind sale! We can drink beer, if we don’t choose the purchase date, the country the beer was from, and the brand. If we bought those beers at the proper Japanese price, they would cost 300 to 400 yen per bottle.
The picture below shows the bottle caps of the beers Chris has been enjoying over the past few months.

They are supposed to be kind on our living expenses, but it looks like we bought quite a few.

Chris drinks those beers happily, but I disregard him: I haven’t had any alcohol since the trouble with my right eye started. My eye probably won’t be any different if I drink a little alcohol, but I want to be prepared for the worst. (I don’t want to go back to the hospital!) So I just drink tea or water.

By the way, the rhododendron in our front yard came into bloom today. It’s four days earlier than last year.
