Category: Our Garden

It’s cold but our garden is working very hard!

Now we’re in the early February cold.
But I think it’s actually easier for plants than the warmer time of year.
We can pay less attention to watering, and bugs or diseases.
Of course, it’s more beautiful in March and April with a lot of flowers, and our yard has started its spring preparations.

Hellebores (Christmas roses and Lenten roses) are coming into bloom, starting with the reddish flowers.
Maybe it’s because the locations where they are planted (or where their pots are placed) all have different conditions of sunshine.
(There are some hellebores that have never had flowers since I planted them. I guess I’d best transfer them to another sunnier location, but I haven’t done it yet.)

The one named H. niger is the source of the name Christmas rose (it originally blooms earlier, around the Christmas season), but ours still just has buds.
Other kinds of Christmas roses are also still just buds. Other kinds of flowers are also still not out yet. The bulbs are just pushing out from the ground.
After this cold season, maybe our yard will become full of flowers (we really hope so)!
