What is Nishigawa Kobo Two?

This web site has always aspired to two identities. It is a bilingual general interest publication that draws its content from daily experience here in our corner of Fukuoka. It is also a vehicle to promote our literary and artistic work. The literary side of things will now make its home here: in and around the Nishigawa Kobo Two weblog.

Nishigawa Kobo Two presents a mix of forms: fiction and non-fiction; prose and poetry; text and image. Because these are all meant to elicit different kinds of response, the entries in this weblog differ according to the form they present. So, for example, you will usually have an opportunity to comment on the non-fiction; the other forms hope to encourage a private engagement with the content. In any case, you can get in touch with me directly by clicking the credit line below the entry.

As you’d expect, the different themes treated in this weblog are organised into categories. ‘About (what is all this?)’ is the category you’re reading now. It explains what I intend to do with this weblog, and with the Nishigawa Kobo web site in general. Here you’ll also find entries of a more technical nature to do with web site production, and a discussion of problems people have had when attempting to view this site.

Other categories include – or will include in the future – ‘Architecture’, ‘Books’, ‘Design’, ‘Language’, and ‘Objects’. ‘Scenes from Life’ are mainly visual: you will find images paired with writing; the texts are suggestive, not instructive or explanatory. The ‘Yakitori Diaries’ are fictional dialogues on current events and so forth; you can get more than enough opinion and reportage from newspapers, so these dialogues give you an opportunity to listen in as various personalities think things through.

The ‘site-side content’ listing you see near the top left corner of the main page will take you to the ‘static’ part of the Nishigawa Kobo web site. These pages do not change as often as the weblog: they include content we produced before the spring of 2005. When there are changes or additions to this ‘static’ content, I add an entry to the weblog that includes a link to the appropriate page.

You will also find interesting articles of a different kind on the main Nishigawa Kobo weblog. We describe every part of the Nishigawa Kobo site on our general ‘about’ page.

I add at least one element to this weblog at least once a week, so I hope you’ll be inclined to visit again.

An update

Once a week became once a year… and the answer to the question ‘What is Nishigawa Kobo Two?’ became nothing much.

Changes are in the works. Once I make real progress, I plan to post an announcement on the Nishigawa Kobo weblog, so please keep watching that one.
